5 Ways To Create Bohemian Style Interiors

Bohemian Style of Design, popularly known as the Boho Style, is the free souls’ design style. This style values being natural, relaxed and comfortable. It stays unrestrained and unruled. There is no ‘should’ that goes with this design. Interiors inspired by this style of design give you complete freedom to experiment with bold hues, a variety of materials and classic patterns. The casual character and out-of-the-box approach lend all the charm to the Bohemian Style.

Origin of the Bohemian Style

This style originated from the artists and the nomads of Paris in the 19th Century. This creative folk favored comfortable and highly personalized interiors. They tossed out the rules and overturned the standards of beautiful aesthetics by embracing this unconventional way of design. As a matter of fact, even today, Bohemian design is all about bringing in philosophies, art and culture from around the globe. This style is as mesmerizing and diverse, as the people who inspire it.

How to ace Bohemian Style Interiors?

Bohemian Design celebrates the raw and organic forms that have a human touch to them. Although, there is no particular set of instructions to follow this style, yet there are some common practices, to introduce those Boho vibes to your space.

1. LAYERING
Layering various patterns, colours or textures is the easiest step to start with, if you desire Bohemian aesthetics. Combine multicoloured textiles and layer rugs, cushions and throws all over the place. Get playful here, mix and match bold colours with geometric or floral patterns, then add macramé, pillows, quilts or some home décor accents. Being a true follower of this style of design, emphasize using handmade and artistic pieces such as paintings, wall art, pottery and sculptures. Unlike the Contemporary style of design that highlights the minimalist architectural approach, Bohemian Style is rather free of those restrictions. This style statement reflects your personality, so being minimalist or maximalist shall be your own preference.

Throws, rugs, cushions, pillows, candles, lanterns and plants- they all add their own charm to this space.

2. INCLUDE NATURAL PLANTS IN YOUR SPACE
Plants are a key element to Boho Style since their mere presence creates calming aesthetics and offers a connection with nature. Plants like Ferns, Bonsai or Succulents develop a visual interest. Moreover, you can choose to go with potted plants, hanging plants or even a massive plant to adorn a corner of your space and add that artsy look to it. Besides all this, such greenery will also improve the air quality and splash colours to your interiors.

3. LIGHT IT UP!
Once you have set up your space, you need lighting to brighten it all up. So focus on natural lighting for an airy and welcoming ambiance. Candles, lanterns, table lamps, sconces, pendant lights or even chandeliers, all have their own unique space in this design. Certainly, anything that suits you, will fit in the Boho Style too.

4. ADD THAT VINTAGE FLAIR
Another simple way to jump into Bohemian Style is by complementing the new with the old. Vintage, slightly worn second-hand furniture pieces or weaved furniture do not only create a statement, but they do have their own history too. Consequently, they add cultural value to your interiors. For instance, a chaise lounge, an old record player, a distressed mirror or a four poster bed, all significantly contribute to the visual appeal. Such furniture items can also be collected over time. The basic idea is to create comfortable and personalized interiors, even if they don’t match up perfectly!

5. TRAVEL SOUVENIRS
Souvenirs from travels accentuate the native character of this design, which is known to tell stories. Reflecting the nomadic and gypsy lifestyle, collectibles and travel trinkets are also great conversation starters.

So, now you know the trick! Bohemian style is totally unpredictable. Bright wallpapers, oriental tiles, leather poufs, plants, vintage furniture, sequined fabrics or textiles in vivid patterns, they don’t exactly need to match with each other. The uniqueness of this style is the freedom it offers to create your space, that’s yours, in its true sense!
